Golf Digest’s 2011-12 “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses” list and 2011-12 “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” list appear in its May 2011 issue.
The Plantation Course at Kapalua on Maui and The Prince Course on Kauai were the only two Hawaii golf courses to make “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses.” The Plantation Course debuted in 88th place, while The Prince Course dropped from 67th to tie for 97th with New York’s Winged Foot Golf Club.
A total of six Hawaii golf courses were ranked on this year’s “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” list. The Plantation Course at Kapalua is ranked 17th, up from 25th last year. The Prince Course dropped seven spots to 19th on this year’s list. Mauna Kea Golf Course on the Big Island slipped one spot this year to 27th, and The Challenge at Manele on Lanai is down two spots to 37th. Maui’s Wailea Gold Course moved up from 91st last year to tie for 74th with Idaho’s Coeur D’Alene Resort Golf Course, and Oahu's Turtle Bay Resort jumped from 97th to tie for 81st with Michigan’s Grand Traverse Resort & Spa.
