Why I Love The Big Island

I had occasion to spend time in our Honolulu office this week.  Most of my time was spent sitting at a desk with this amazing view.  It was even more spectacular at night looking at all of the lights of the city.

But as beautiful as it was, I realized something was missing.

Today I am working at my desk at my house.  Here is my view (although my camera phone hardly does it justice).

THIS is why I love the Big Island.   So much land and so few people compared to Oahu. It really doesn't matter where you live on this particular rock, your view will likely always include a good dose of nature and a serious shortage of concrete, glass and steel.

Granted those two photos are not fair or complete representations of their respective islands.  There is indeed plenty of beautiful nature on Oahu, and - trust me - you can find lot's of ugliness on the Big Island.  But to me there is something to be said for living on the island that has twice the land mass of the other islands COMBINED, but with only about 13% of the State's population.  I guess I'd call it having elbow room.

But no matter what island we live on, we still all Lucky We Live Hawaii!
